WHEN COUPLES THERAPY MAY HELP

You do not need to wait until the relationship reaches breaking point

Therapy may help resolve difficulties, prevent them from becoming entrenched, restore closeness or support a more respectful separation.

DIALOGUE

Blocked communication

Circular arguments, criticism, silence or the feeling of not being heard.

REPEATED CYCLES

Recurring conflict

The same problem returns repeatedly and agreements do not hold.

CLOSENESS

Emotional distance

Loss of closeness, routine, loneliness within the relationship or lack of support.

REPAIR

Infidelity and trust

A need to understand what happened, process the hurt and consider whether repair is possible.

TRANSITIONS

Changes and decisions

Living together, children, families of origin, fertility, separation or new projects.

HOW WE WORK

The relationship is the difficulty we observe together

Therapy does not seek to decide who is right. It helps identify the pattern maintaining the conflict, express needs safely and practise more useful alternatives.

Request guidance
1
Understand the conflict

We explore what happens, when it appears and how each partner responds.

2
Identify the pattern

We observe the cycle of attack, withdrawal, defensiveness or disconnection that fuels distress.

3
Create new responses

We practise communication, emotional regulation, empathy, negotiation and boundaries.

4
Consolidate agreements

We review changes and design realistic ways to care for the relationship.

A QUICK REFLECTION

Relationship thermometer

4 questions to pause and reflect on how your relationship is right now. This is not a clinical test, just a starting point for conversation.

1. How would you describe your communication lately?

2. Do conflicts get resolved, or do they stay unresolved?

3. How is your emotional connection and intimacy?

4. How aligned are you on seeking professional help?

Answer all 4 questions.
INITIAL ASSESSMENT

A space to hear both perspectives

The organisation of the first sessions is adapted to the case. The professional will explain when joint work is appropriate and whether an individual interview may be useful.

01
Joint session

To observe interaction and agree goals.

02
Individual interview

Only when the professional assessment recommends it.

03
In person or online

Subject to the service, situation and availability.

RELATIONSHIP SAFETY

When fear, control or violence are present, safety comes first

These situations require a specific assessment. Joint therapy may not be suitable if one person cannot speak freely, fears retaliation or active violence is present.

The initial assessment determines the safest form of support. In immediate danger, call 112 or go to emergency services.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Before starting couples therapy

Do we both have to want to stay together?
You do not need to arrive with a final decision. Therapy can help you assess the relationship more clearly, try to repair it or support a respectful separation.
What if my partner does not want to attend?
You can request individual guidance to understand your situation and consider which changes depend on you. This does not replace joint therapy when the goal requires both partners' participation.
Does therapy decide who is to blame?
No. Responsibilities, needs and consequences are considered, but the main goal is to understand the relationship pattern and support specific changes.
Can couples therapy be online?
Yes, when the service and situation allow it. Both partners need privacy, a good connection and suitable conditions to participate.
How long does the process last?
There is no identical duration for every couple. It depends on goals, level of conflict, safety, participation and progress between sessions.
